How to join the lab
BSc and MSc projects at ITU
At PURRlab we are doing meta-research on the use of machine learning, often in medical image analysis. To learn more about the research directions, check out our publications. You can find highlighted example of previous student projects on the projects page. You can also find more examples on our github https://github.com/purrlab
More information about what it’s like to join the lab, and general resources for students are available in our Lab guide on Notion.
We are not supervising project in fall 2025 due to Veronika’s sabbatical and several people leaving the lab. For spring 2026, multiple projects will be available related to:
- Qualitative analysis of notions of similarity used by ML practitioners
- CATchy: how catchy titles and cat pictures influence the popularity of ML papers
- Automatic extraction and validation of reported performances in ML papers
- Estimating dataset similarity and transferability
- General vs specialized vision-language models for medical images
- (More to be added)
Open PhD or postdoc positions
There are currently no open positions. Two postdoc positions on the CHEETAH project, focusing on inclusion in machine learning competitions, will be announced in early 2026. We are particularly looking for candidates with experience in qualitative research. Please contact Veronika if this sounds interesting!
All positions will be advertised through the official ITU vacancy page. Here you can sign up to stay updated about possible positions.
Alternatives
If you have or are eligible to apply for external funding and would like to work with us, or you are interested in a research visit, please contact Veronika (vech @ itu.dk). You should attach your CV (links to preprints or Github projects appreciated), write 2-3 paragraphs describing possible research directions, AND how these relate to work we are doing in the lab.
Some sources of funding to consider are:
- DDSA visit grants
- Innovation Fund - industrial PhD
- Fulbright (only for researchers from USA)
- MSCA postdoctoral fellowships
- Lundbeck fellowships
